We have great potential as human beings, but we don’t always realize it! What we say or believe about ourselves can stop us from realizing our full potential. This can sabotage our best efforts, holding us back from success. We don’t take the steps forward to pursue the dreams we long to realize.
These self-limiting beliefs can happen to all of us, but you can learn to overcome them.
Here are 4 of the most common self-limiting beliefs that arise when we try to manifest our dreams. Included are affirmations to say and positive actions to take to create a shift so that you can begin to realize your full potential, including your dreams.
“I don’t know what I want.”
Sometimes, you have vague ideas of your dreams. You long for something more, but you aren’t clear on what that is. Maybe you want to “be more creative” or “do something for myself.” It’s unlikely that dreams this vague will manifest. Staying in this unclear state can feel secure and comfortable. You don’t need to take any actions or risks. But being stuck in this place won’t help you realize your dreams!
Having a clear vision for your dream with details of the who/when/where/how/why questions addressed will help create clarity and set an intention for exactly what you want to manifest. Concrete action steps that you can take, a few at a time, will build a bridge to success.
We’ve found it very helpful to create something in physical form that represents your vision. It’s inspirational and a reminder each day of the manifestation of your dream. A 3-D model or a drawing of what you envision are great ways to do this.
Affirmation: I have a clear vision for my dream and take the steps forward to manifest it.
Positive action: Create a 3-D model or drawing of the clear vision of your dream.
2.“I don’t have the time and energy.”
We can feel stressed about not having enough time or energy to do everything we need to in our lives. How can we possibly realize our dreams? There’s no time for that when you have so many other things to do.
You feel exhausted from all the things you have to do each day. You think, “How can I do that TOO? I don’t have that much time or energy.”
Try to shift your perspective in this area. Everyone has the same amount of time each day, and we make choices about how we use it. Prioritizing what’s most aligned with your highest good is key. Do that first. Then see what time is left for the remaining pieces.
Energy is unlimited. Truly. Remember we always have access to energy in the world. Pursuing our passions, gifts, and dreams often creates more energy in our body, mind, and soul. It also brings more joy into our lives!
Affirmation: I align to my highest good. I have all the time and energy I need in the present moment.
Positive Action: Schedule time each week to work toward manifesting your dream. Maybe it’s just ½ hour twice a week in the beginning. Hold this time as sacred.
3. “Who am I to deserve this?”
We can often believe we aren’t good enough, talented enough, or skilled enough to pursue a dream we have. We can even think we don’t deserve to do or have something so wonderful. This is part of human nature and common for those who want to manifest a dream.
Become self-aware when these thoughts and beliefs creep in. Try to shift them.
Affirmation: I am enough and worthy of all my dreams.
Positive Action: Sit quietly in contemplation or meditation regularly, remembering and experiencing yourself as part of the Divine.
4. “I can do it myself. I don’t need help.”
We can feel it’s easier or better to create something alone. Maybe we feel ashamed or guilty to ask for help. Maybe we don’t want to be rejected or let down in asking someone else.
But we’re naturally social beings and living within a social community includes the act of giving and receiving. Not just giving and more giving.
Affirmation: I can receive help in manifesting my dream. I participate in the social dynamic of giving and receiving.
Positive Action: Ask for help or guidance from someone at least once a day so it becomes a natural part of your life.
