When Potholes Show Up on Your Journey (Part 2)

Moving Forward and Regaining Perspective

When you’re driving and hit a pothole on the road, your first instinct isn’t to speed up. You slow down. You steady the wheel. You assess the situation before moving forward.

The same wisdom applies to the journey of manifesting your dream.

If you missed my first blog post on When Potholes Show Up on Your Journey (Part 1) Why Obstacles Don’t Mean You’re on the Wrong Path, you can find it HERE.

After acknowledging the obstacle and assessing the situation, the next question to ask is How do I move forward from here?

The answer is rarely pushing harder. It’s often about making use of what you have learned to move forward with care.

When challenges arise, we often interpret them as a signal to try harder and do more. We forget about how rest can support us. Yet, exhaustion can interfere with creativity and amplify fear. When we remember to rest, it can restore clarity and insight.

Once you’re rested, try shifting your perspective of a situation. Instead of asking, Why is this happening to me? try asking, What is this revealing to me? What can I learn from this?

Finding support to navigate the rough terrain can be helpful too. Obstacles can feel heavier when carried alone. But sharing what you’re facing with a trusted friend, mentor, or community will help to calm your nervous system. And it reminds you that you don’t have to figure everything out by yourself.

Self-compassion matters deeply when you encounter a rough patch on your journey. Speak to yourself the way you would speak to someone you love who is tired, discouraged, or unsure. Kindness is fuel for forward movement.

Ask yourself:

  • What would it look like to move forward with compassion right now?

  • What support would help me feel steadier?

  • What do I need in order to stay connected to my purpose, even in this pause?

Moving forward means staying in relationship with your dream, even when the road is uneven.

Potholes will come and go. That’s part of any journey worth taking.

The road is still leading to your dream.

And you’re still on it!

Sometimes the most powerful way to keep moving forward is some time away devoted to your well-being and your deeper why.

This September, we’ll be offering a Live Your Dreams in-person retreat, created as a place to step out of constant doing and into meaningful being. It’s a space to reflect, recalibrate, and reconnect with the vision that matters most to you. Surrounded by others who are also honoring their path, you’re reminded that you don’t have to navigate challenges alone and that support can be both gentle and transformative.

If this resonates, you’re invited to join us. Find the details HERE.
