When Potholes Show Up on Your Journey (Part 1)
Why Obstacles Don’t Mean You’re on the Wrong Path

Have you ever had something unexpected arise on your journey toward manifesting your dream?
I’m sure you have!
When this happens, progress can slow. Plans can wobble. And your energy might dip. Where you once felt enthusiastic and clear, you now feel heavy or uncertain.
This is often the moment people quietly ask themselves: Did I make a mistake? Is this a sign I should stop?
But what if obstacles aren’t signs you’re on the wrong path? What if they’re simply part of the path?
Think of your journey toward your dream like a long road. You wouldn’t expect every mile to be smooth. There are stretches under construction, sudden detours, and even potholes.
These rough patches don’t mean you’ve gone down the wrong road. They mean that you are moving down the road!

Setbacks, delays, and unexpected challenges aren’t failures. They’re common human experiences that arise whenever we’re moving on a journey.
Dreams that matter will stretch us. They will ask us to encounter our limits, fears, habits, and even old stories. These may cause some bumps in the road.
But these don’t need to stop us. We just need to slow down.
And slowing down isn’t the same as stopping.
Sometimes the pothole is an invitation to reassess, to notice what’s working and what isn’t. Sometimes it’s to repair something within ourselves. Maybe depleted energy, unclear boundaries, or unrealistic expectations. Other times, the path just needs a small reroute, not complete abandonment.
We can often feel an emotional response in these moments. Frustration can arise when your effort doesn’t show immediate results. Doubt may creep in when progress feels uneven. Fatigue can set in when we’ve been pushing without adequate rest or support.
Instead of judging, we can meet these responses with curiosity.
Ask yourself:
What “pothole” am I currently facing?
How am I interpreting this challenge, as failure or as feedback?
What is this moment asking of me that I haven’t considered yet?
Obstacles often help us to better understand ourselves and our next steps on the journey. They show us where we’re overextending, where we’re undersupported, or where an old approach no longer fits.

The path forward may not be exactly what you pictured at first. It may change. But different doesn’t mean you’re on the wrong road.
One of the most powerful statements you can say to yourself at this time is: This challenge is not here to stop me. It’s here to teach me.
When you hold obstacles in this way, you relax some. You begin to flow with life rather than against it.
And that’s often when momentum returns!
If you’re in a place where the road feels uneven, remember this: you’re not behind. You’re not broken. You’re not failing.
You’re learning how to travel this road with greater wisdom. And that learning is part of the journey toward your dream.
If you’re navigating a stretch of road that feels uncertain, uneven, or heavier than you expected, it may be a sign that you need more support.
This September, we’ll be hosting a Live Your Dreams in-person retreat, a supportive space designed for reflection, nervous system regulation, and reconnecting with purpose. If your journey toward your dream has been bumpy recently, this may be an invitation to meet it with care in a supportive environment.
