Summer’s on the horizon, and it’s wonderful to have the sun shining and flowers blooming. Mother Nature’s bringing us a sense of hope once again.
And yet, many are feeling the weight of a pandemic that has continued on for over a year and our second summer of Covid. Our lives continue to be affected.
Some feel sad or lonely. Others are just tired of life as it exists now, a Covid fatigue that has set in.
Will life ever return to what we had before, we wonder?
When can I travel again, see my relatives and friends, go to a concert or the theater?

In moments like these, we, David and Jeannine, like to remember a favorite story from José Hobday, a great spiritual teacher. José was a Native American woman who became a Franciscan nun. Can you imagine what her life’s journey might’ve been? Such an amazing woman and so wise.
It’s said that she often shared this story from her childhood with others during her life.
One Saturday night in her home in Texas, her brothers were playing outside, and she was inside, sitting in the front room of her home. She overheard her mom and dad in the kitchen who had their few dollar bills spread out on the table, trying to figure out how much they had to buy food for the family to eat for the next week.
José heard her mother advocating for saving a few dollars for any possible emergencies that may arise. Her father spoke about paying off the unpaid bills. José felt the tension and anxiety growing in her home, and her stomach muscles tightened.
Growing up in a poor household, she knew that times were tough. And she worried about how her parents would be able to get enough food for the family to eat for the next week.
But what happened next even surprised José that night!
And it was something she remembered the rest of her life.
For her, it was a moment that taught her about lifting herself and others up, out of doom and gloom, during difficult times. About how to reach for joy and wonder when life’s challenging. And that’s why it’s one of our favorite stories!
